What a month! The binge eating disorder kicked in and played merry hell with the weight loss journey again. The makeup successes made a huge difference to how I look and there’s some gorgeous new jumpers in my “skinny” wardrobe. Read on to learn more. 🙂
Weight Loss Progress
Let me say first up that while I lost another 0.5kg (1lb) my eating disorder kicked back in and I went ballistic on the binge eating again for two weeks. It was not pretty!
During that two weeks I ate all sorts of chocolate crap (as well as, or instead of ,my usual very healthy diet) and promptly put on a whole kg. NOT HAPPY JAN!!!! (As we say here in Aussieland.)
So, it was time for drastic action again to get the eating disorder back in its box. So I have reverted to taming the beast by doing Lite n Easy food deliveries for a couple of weeks. I found when I tried this a couple of years ago, it kept me on the straight and narrow and I gently and safely lost weight. Their food is really well balanced, delicious, wholesome, nutritious and so flipping convenient, especially for a shift worker like me. Having a healthy prepacked lunch or dinner when you start work at all odd hours of the day and night is really helpful.
End result is that I lost the kg I put on during my binge period and I’m back on track again for the goal weight of 60kg. Total weight loss to date is just over 18kg (40lbs) and 4 dress sizes.
Skincare and Makeup
I’ve been more reserved this month (and the bank account loves me as a result) and used this month to play with my existing makeup (oh alright! I did buy a couple of little bits and bobs!) to try and learn more about what suits me best.
Definitely my skin looks better with a lightweight, fluid foundation (still love the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer for work days) and my current favourite is still Dior’s Nude Air Serum Foundation but the Channel Vitalumiere is fast catching up at the moment.
I tested out some different skincare products this month too. Loving the Skeyndor range, utterly in love with the Philosophy Microdelivery Peel (which isn’t actually a peel and is more a scrub), and the La Prairie Anti-Aging Rapid Response Booster Serum (why does everyone have to have such ridiculously long names for products???!!). Also tested out some other products that I wont buy again for various reasons. The La Prairie Skin Caviar cream was not a favourite for me. It was too greasy and settled on my skin instead of sinking into it. The Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion Paste was waaaaaay to gritty and scratchy and I tried Rosehip oil which didn’t help my wrinkles (as promised) and instead gifted me with a bunch of spots instead!
After 5 months of playing with makeup and skincare, I’m slowly developing my list of holy grail products and also my makeup techniques that help me hide imperfections and enhance what I do like about myself.
I’ve also cemented the thought that makeup is definitely fun and that we shouldn’t become slaves to cosmetic products. In my humble opinion, we should be using makeup to make the best of what we have, to improve our self esteem and confidence and above all, to have some fun with our creative spirits.
Hair Care Update
Nothing much to report on my hair this month. I’ve found a new hairdresser who really respects that my fragile hair tangles just by looking at it and she’s done a fabulous job of taming it down for me over the last six weeks. The colour is a warm brown, the ends are healthier and it’s not looking too bad right now.
This month I was supposed to have a deep clean right up into my gums in preparation for the next lot of veneers but sadly my hygienist was ill and my appointment had to be cancelled. To be honest, I’m relieved. This cleaning session was going to involve injections and it was going to be very invasive so I was nervous. On the downside, I still have the experience to “look forward to” (NOT!) so the teeth makeover got a month’s set back during May.
It’s flipping cold here so I went out and bought a couple of cute little jumpers and two new pairs of trousers to keep me warm. Having lost all that extra insulating fat, I’m feeling the cold even more so I figured I deserved a couple of new pieces.
I also threw out the last of the “big” trousers. Yay!!!!!!
Plans for June
The next big things are the teeth veneers and the dermafillers in August or there abouts and these are pretty on the spendy side so June and probably July will be months where I save my pennies. My plans therefore for June are more around cementing my holy grail skin care products and perfecting my makeup techniques even more.
One of my biggest plans for June however will be to stay on track with my eating, to keep the binge eating disorder locked away in it’s cupboard and to keep the weight loss journey on target. For someone with a diagnosed eating disorder, that’s a massive ask but I’ve managed to do it for the previous six months so I know I can do it. Fingers crossed for me please.
Diploma of Beauty Qualification
My last piece of news is that I’ve enrolled into a Diploma of Beauty Therapy course (part time) to learn lots more about the fundamentals of beauty care. It’s not aimed at any career change necessarily and is more from an interest perspective. I’m loving learning about stuff like waxing, already fed up with the manicure lessons but loving the makeup lessons.
The longer term aim is to get my post grad qualifications in injectables so I’m better placed to offer dermafillers and Botox to my clients along with the confidential beauty advice I already provide. It’s exciting times ahead!
I’m really keen to hear about your beauty successes this month and what new discoveries you’ve made. Please share those in the comments below.
Smiles and hugs,
